Jenn Gietzen’s fourth collection //
to mother: to treat someone with great care and affection. // 2023 has been a rollercoaster of events in our house. for those who have followed our IVF/fertility journey, we were able to have our first embryo transfer in january 2023. i can truly say it was one of the most incredible moments of our lives. to watch science and God come together, to see our embryo, our baby, be transferred into my uterus. no words can describe. we awaited anxiously for 10 days for our results to see if our embryo “stuck”. much to our prayers, hope and surprise, it did. (i will keep the gender private for us and our dear ones) we were thrilled! tears of joy, dreams in motion, clothes and baby books purchased, all praise to God for the blessing that we had hoped, prayed and waited so long for.
then the worst day of our lives came 4 weeks and a few days later. we lost our baby that we had hoped, prayed and waited so long for. these last two months have been filled with so much anger, frustration, anxiety, feelings of loss and loneliness, not to mention the hormonal roller coaster. i’ve been mad at my body, confused as to why this would happen when we only had good reports from the doctors and so so angry at God. angry that He would let this happen after we praised him so much for this blessing. not being able to see his faithfulness or goodness. but then, at the same time, thanking him for how he showed up in our community. it was, and still is, a hard pill to swallow. to have both.
but our community showed up for us in a way i have never experienced. i was and still am overwhelmed with love and gratitude for our people. they “mothered” us, cared for us when we couldn’t for ourselves, continue to check in on us. they sent and brought flowers, food, candles and other treats to bring us comfort. those loved ones have inspired this new collection. the mothering collection. to care for someone else when they can’t for themself. it is a gift to receive love but such an even bigger one to help and love on those who need it. i’m so thankful to those who were there for us, continue to be there for us and i hope that each of you get to experience the love of your community. i’m honored to be loved by you and i dedicate this collection to you.
